Latest Release: The Islander

Today saw the release of the fifth song from Nightwish's latest album. "The Islander" is song number ten on "Dark Passion Play". You can see the music video for "The Islander" here.

Trivia

• The anchor on the music video is the symbol for "Dark Passion Play"
• This song is mainly sung by Marco, but Anette comes in at the end
• The only reason the music video was filmed was because the Finland part of Lapland was "too stunning" not to use
• This is the only song on the album "Dark Passion Play" to be completely acoustic

I hope Nightwish does well across the world, especially Europe, in the charts with this hit.

UPCOMING SINGLE: The Islander

Nightwish is going to release a new single from the album "Dark Passion Play". Entitled "The Islander", it follows on from the releases of "Eva", "Amaranth", "Erämaan Viimeinen" ("Last Of The Wilds" with added Finish lyrics) & "Bye Bye Beautiful". You can see the music video below.



"The Islander" is due to be released on May 21. I hope it does well in charts throughout the world.

Nightwish's ECHO

Nightwish have been awarded an ECHO award as "International Rock/Alternative" Band of the Year. The Fins must be delighted that the Germans like them. Well done!

Also in the category were the great British band Kaiser Chiefs, the equally good Dutch group Within Temptation as well as Foo Fighters & Marilyn Manson.

Latest Release: Bye Bye Beautiful

As you know, Nightwish's latest single, Bye Bye Beautiful, was released today. You can see the cover above. Nightwish are known for their excellent cover art and this is no exception. The chess piece covered in blood is taken from the line in the chorus which goes, "Did we play to become only pawns in the game?" You can see the music video here. You can find the lyrics here.

The CD version contains the single, a demo version for the song The Poet And The Pendulum, a song featured on the Japanese version of Dark Passion Play entitled The Escapist which can be heard here and the D.J. Orkidea Remix of Bye Bye Beautiful.

Trivia

• The song is the second track on the album Dark Passion Play. It is proceeded by The Poet And The Pendulum and it is followed by Amaranth.
• The song is believed to be aimed at former vocalist Tarja Turunen, who was sacked by an open letter in October 2005. However, Toumas has stated that the music video is not aimed at her.
• It is written by Toumas and is sung by both Anette & Marco.

I hope it does well, but I will not be buying it as I have the song on the album.

UPCOMING SINGLE: Bye Bye Beautiful

Nightwish are releasing their fourth song from their album Dark Passion Play. They have previously released Eva, Amaranth & Erämaan Viimeinen (Last Of The Wilds with Finish lyrics, rather than being completely instrumental). It is going to be released throughout Europe on February 15 (I presume on February 18 in the U.K.); more information coming soon. The song is brilliant and the music video can be viewed below.
